Books To Help Kids Understand Body Acceptance and Autonomy

Updated: Sep 29, 2023

These two books... "Body Boundaries Make Me Stronger" by Elizabeth Cole and "Bodies are Cool" by Tyler Feder teach kids that their bodies belong to THEM and there are all sorts of different bodies types, colors, abilities and they are all beautiful.

Body Boundaries Make Me Stronger by Elizabeth Cole

Body Boundaries Make Me Stronger

It is NEVER too early to begin to teach children about body autonomy! I have a good friend who is a detective with the Atlanta Police Department SVU specializing in sex crimes against minor children. He explains how sometimes it is difficult it is to gather enough evidence to warrant an arrest for an offender, and in the meantime the offenders are continue to walk among us. Teaching Jack body autonomy has been one of the most important teachings.

This book helps to gently teach about personal boundaries in an age-appropriate manner. Cole provides a great guide for kids to know that their bodies belong to them, how to express their feelings in what's said and what rules they might set up regarding their bodies.

Bodies Are Cool by Tyler Feder

Bodies Are COOL

Jack LOVES this book. LOVES. There was a month when we had to read the book EVERY SINGLE NIGHT. I didn't care though, because I love it, too! This book is amazing. It shows all the different body, skin, hair, features abilities that you could imagine. Feder shows that everybody's body and touches on

Weight - Skinny, Fat, Lanky, Tall, Giggly bellies, Pregnant bellies, etc...

Skin Colors - All the different shades and patches, freckles, swirled skin colors, tattoos

Noses

Eyes

Hair (body and head hair)

Transgender bodies

Body abilities - two legs, one leg, no legs, etc...

I could go on and on, but I highly suggest you add this book to your collection
